Council Tax Repayment PlansCouncil Tax Repayment Plans

When you are juggling payments for other debts, it can be tempting to skip payments for Council Tax in order to afford your other commitments, but this is one of the worst things you can do. By skipping your monthly payments, you could lose your right to pay in instalments, and receive a final notice demanding the full amount outstanding for the rest of the financial year. Even worse, your local authority could pass the debt to Sheriff’s Officers with legal powers to possess items in your property to cover the debt.

Don’t Let This Happen – Ask Us About Repayment Plans Today

If you have received such a demand, or you have fallen behind on one or two payments and have no way of catching up in the immediate future, call our team. We can work with your local authority to negotiate a Council Tax repayment plan on your behalf. Most local authorities are open to this type of negotiation as they would rather receive the money they are owed rather than paying for costly Sheriff’s services and the cost of legal proceedings against you.

Our experts have years of experience in managing Council Tax arrears, and we have helped many Scottish residents to get on top of the problem quickly, and in the most affordable way.

What Happens If You Don’t Pay Your Council Tax Arrears?

If you fail to pay your Council Tax arrears you could be issued with what is known as a summary warrant. Summary warrants are issued to Sheriff Officers by the local authority, and effectively pass the debt management to the Sheriff Officers. If you have received notice of a summary warrant, you will need to pay the Sheriff Officers. The amount you owe will also increase automatically by 10%.

You will normally have 14 days to pay the full amount, but if you fail to do so, the Sheriff Officers could take the following action:

  1. Arresting your wages
  2. Freezing your bank accounts
  3. Automatically taking money against the debt from your bank accounts
  4. Removing your possessions and selling them to cover the debt

We Can Prevent This From Happening But You Must Call Us Now

Whether you have received a summary warrant, or a final demand from your local authority, we are on hand to help. We can work closely with you to set up a repayment plan so that you can manage and clear your debt quickly and in the most affordable manner possible. We can also help you to keep on top of future payments once the debt has cleared so that you never find yourself in the same situation again.
